The relationship between DNA, Sociopathy, DNA and Monomine Oxidase. Put in plain, easy to understand language. Monomine oxidase is a chemical that most of us produce in our brains that is associated with firing our "flight response" - aggressiveness or the warning bells in something we may see as an emergency life threatening situation which in turn gets the adrenaline going. It can also be associated with feelings such as the excitement of love. Genetic studies in Holland have shown that the gene responsible for the production of Monomine oxidase was missing in people who were diagnosed as sociopathic (having no regard or concept of how others may be effected by their actions). original publication from "Science" journal. reference here... Studies done by The Spanish Council for Scientific Studies, reveals that beta-carboline alkaloids in tobacco smoke reduce the production of monomine oxidase, hence a "self medicated" effect seen in smokers - reduced aggressive behaviour. With the worldwide anti-smoking drive netting many unsuspecting people who could well do with medicating it is little wonder that aggression levels since anti-smoking began, have increase immensely.
